If I get a laptop lock…won’t burglars just walk out with the safe?

http://www.amazon.com/First-Alert-2060F-Digital-Anti-Theft/dp/B002RL9RU4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311051367&sr=8-1

^^ I am thinking of getting this for college, for some extra laptop security. My mom brought up a good point though: won’t they just pick up the safe and walk out, rather than just pick up the laptop itself? Is it a good idea to buy this safe for a college dorm, or no?

laptop lock is good when you are staying in a dorm, but not the one you saw. That is not for your purpose. Thats intended when you have precious data on your laptop and rival companies may try to get their hands on it. They don’t give a damn about the laptop there, all they need is the data. What you need is a Kensington lock. I guess your laptop has a Kensington lock hole. Every laptop has one.

How can i wire my car alarm up to a switch???

really what im after is total keyless and remoteless entry, the only way in to my car at the minute is through the alarms key fob… but im wanting to wire a simple push button, one click on one click off type of thing… iv got the central locking to work using this switch, but i need to know how to wire up the alarm so it arms and dis-arms through the same switch….. what wires to i use.. i though simply wire it to the power source but that didnt work…

can this be done, i hope so.. if so how do you do it???? any advice will be greatfully recieved….

thanks in advance..

You may want to contact the alarm manufacturer they might be able to help. If it can be done they should know how.

Why would my panic alarm goes off when I use the remote to unlock the car door?

A car alarm was recently installed, but was not wired into the horn. Also, the panic alarm only does this after the car has been sitting for awhile. The vehicle is a 01 Chevy HD Silverado.

Is there a chance that you are accidentally pushing the panic button on the remote when you go to unlock the door?

Tamper Switch

Someone opened my mail and replaced the contents, now what?

Two packages got mixed up at my building (two seperate orders from the same company). Another person in the building opened the package addressed to me (and replaced the contents with what they ordered, taking my item. My name and address were clearly labeled on the front where the box was opened. The building manager said the person opened it “accidentally” and returned the box to them opened. Opening another person’s mail is a felony and I would think tampering with it (by switching the two items) would be even worse. I have yet to speak with the person to see if they’ll return my item (or to see if it was a factory error..it seems a little too suspicious at this point for that though) but I’m not taking this lightly. What legal actions could be taken if they did in fact switch the items?

I wouldn’t worry about it. It was probably just the Government going through your mail “looking for Osama Bin Laden”. They can do that now thanks to the “Patriot Act”

http://action.aclu.org/reformthepatriotact/215.html

If not, then I hope what you had wasn’t too embarrassing and that you’re not on Facebook, because Facebook might use your purchasing information as an advertisement to other members and websites. One story reads “And with Project Beacon, a program for partner sites, Facebook can now inject information about purchases users make elsewhere on the Web into the feed.”

http://www.internetnews.com/bus-news/article.php/3709816

Then again – I could be wrong and it could just be the Manager and your Neighbor enjoying the X-Box 360 you ordered from Amazon.com last week.

I’m just messin with ya – since the Manager knows who the person is then he/she should set everything straight. If they don’t I would make a police report and have the manager make a statement. There – how’s that? Take care, Rich

PS – Seriously though – stay away from Facebook.

“No bootable device” on Imac?

On my mac, I set boot disk to cd drive to install windows. Before I installed windows I changed my mind. Now. I cannot boot from the internal hard drive. Also, when I attempt to start up the computer holding the option key down I get a screen with a padlock and requesting a password. I have not set a firmware password, so what should I do?

The problem is more serious than just having changed to have the optical drive boot first.

You see, just like with a PC, the iMac goes through all of the bootable devices attached to the system, and choose the first one it hits in the order that has been set. So, even though you set the optical drive to be ahead of the hard drive… if there is not a bootable media in the optical drive, your iMac would still boot to the hard drive.

As to the mysterious password… well, it seems that you have more than one reason to take your iMac to the nearest Apple Store.

end of line
