How does a web programmable thermostat work?
I’m wondering how the web communicates with a programmable remote, thermostat or other device?
I don’t think the device has to be hooked up to a phone line or WiFi!
Is it through radio signals or RFID, and if so, how does THAT work?
Does the company that sells the device have to set up a global radio network?
The ones I have seen have a computer in the basement attached to your furnace, and wires just for communication to the display/keypad (with temperaure sensor), which is just that, or wireless to the keypad or sensors.
The computer in the basement connects to your home network the same as any other computer in your home does, by Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
